Re camera raw processing. If you're just taking pictures for fun, then don't worry about it. If you've got a special photo, a once in the lifetime photo and/or a photo you want to give as a gift, then use the RAW processor.

like i know there's some extra little features but does it really change anything if i just edit in the normal photoshop elements rather than camera raw (comes with it)?
also, bonus question: when printing pictures, well... tell me if this is right: the only thing i really need to worry about is the printer, paper and picture file size (to determine how big i can get a print), and megapixels don't matter because they're the same as the size?
Using the RAW file lets you adjust picture parameters such as white balance, saturation, dynamic range, and sharpness that are otherwise selected for you when the image is converted to JPEG. If you are happy with the way that's being done, there is no need to shoot RAW.

The file size with a JPEG is not always a good indicator of image resolution because it can vary depending on the amount of detail in the image and the amount of compression. The best parameter to consider when printing is the DPI at which the image will print.
Never edit your original... save that and create a duplicate for editing. If you like the results of your duplicate... save it as a tiff (no degradation or compression).
Always post diminished images sharpened and resized with watermarks or copyrights if you don't want them used. And yes, I'm getting carried away.
Megapixels do determine quality constraint limits of a print. If you have the program Genuine Fractals, you can resize to your heart's content, if not...

you can't. Remember, even with 35mm negatives, the print limitations were generally no greater then 16x20 at best. Your sensor duplicates that format for the most part unless you've spent $30K on a Hassy.
There are a lot more controls and your photo will benefit from the extra attention you give it. If you process it as 16 bits (there's a little box in the middle along the bottom of the RAW dialog), make sure you change that to 8 bits before you close out of RAW because the photo will open in the Editor and the Editor can't handle 16 bits.
