If it's a game where they have to name other people who've answered the question or make a comment about them, people write "edit" to hold their place on the board. That way when you comment about the person above/below you, they are commenting on the correct people. If it's a game to name people, it's a way to include yourself in the game until you can fill in who you would choose for whatever the categories are.
